✅ Check‑In & ID Requirements
-
Eligibility is verified at Check‑In.
-
You must present a current (unexpired) ID to gain access and use facilities.
Acceptable Forms of ID
1. Common Access Card (CAC)
Sample Here
-
Issued by the DoD to active‑duty personnel, selected reservists, National Guard, DoD civilians, and eligible contractors.
2. DoD Retiree ID Card
Sample Here
-
For retired military members (with retiree status and ID card).
-
Note: DoD has terminated issuance of civilian retiree ID cards as of February 17, 2023. Existing cards remain valid only until August 31, 2023. After that date, base access for DoD civilian retirees is at the discretion of the installation commander, and they must use a REAL ID‑compliant driver’s license or ID + SF‑50 retirement documentation.
3. Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC)
Sample Here
-
Valid for veterans with one of the following statuses:
-
Service‑Connected Disability (any VA‑rated disability),
-
Purple Heart recipient,
-
Former Prisoner of War (POW).
-
4. DoD Retired Civilians
-
While retiree IDs are no longer issued, retired DoD civilians seeking access must present:
-
A REAL ID‑compliant state/federal photo ID or REAL ID–driver’s license, and
-
A copy of their SF‑50 retirement document or equivalent official DOD civilian retirement paperwork (e.g. SF‑2545 or 2545).
-
Summary
Category | Required ID |
---|---|
Active-duty / Reserve / DoD Civilian / Contractor | Common Access Card (CAC) |
Retired Military Members | DoD Retiree ID Card |
Veterans (Purple Heart / POW / Service‑Connected Disability) | VHIC showing eligible status |
DoD Civilian Retirees (post‑Aug 2023 policy) | REAL ID‑compliant ID + SF‑50 or official retirement document |
Tips Before You Go:
-
Bring physical photo ID—digital copies or expired cards won’t be accepted.
-
If you’re a veteran eligible under the Disabled Veterans Act, make sure your VHIC clearly indicates your status.
-
If you’re a retired DoD civilian, check if your DoD civilian retiree card is still valid; after August 31, 2023 those cards are no longer accepted.
