✅ Check-In & ID Requirements

  • Eligibility is verified at check-in.
  • You must present a current (unexpired) physical ID to gain access and use facilities.

Veterans’ Eligibility and Identification

Honorably discharged veterans are now officially eligible to stay at Fort Tuthill. Acceptable proof is limited to:

  • A driver’s license with a Veteran designation
  • A Veteran Identification Card (VIC)
ELIGIBILITY RULE: NO PAPERWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED AS ELIGIBILITY VERIFICATION.

VIC and VHIC are different cards: A Veteran Identification Card (VIC) is accepted as proof of veteran eligibility. A Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC) is a VA health care identification card and is not the same as a VIC; a VHIC does not satisfy this veteran eligibility requirement.

Acceptable Forms of ID

1. Common Access Card (CAC)

Sample Here

Issued by the DoD to active-duty personnel, selected reservists, National Guard members, DoD civilians, and eligible contractors.

2. DoD Retiree ID Card

Sample Here

For retired military members with retiree status and a current DoD Retiree ID Card.

3. Driver’s License with a Veteran Designation

Accepted for honorably discharged veterans when the current driver’s license clearly displays a Veteran designation.

4. Veteran Identification Card (VIC)

Accepted for honorably discharged veterans. The VIC is different from the Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC).

5. Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC)

Sample Here

The VHIC is issued for VA health care purposes. It is not the same as a VIC and is not accepted as veteran eligibility verification for a Fort Tuthill stay.

6. Retired DoD Civilians — Separate Eligibility Category

Retired DoD civilian eligibility is separate from veterans’ eligibility and is not an exception to the veterans’ no-paperwork rule. Contact Fort Tuthill before traveling to confirm the current credentials required for this category.

Eligibility Summary

Category Required ID
Active Duty / Reserve / DoD Civilian / Contractor Common Access Card (CAC)
Retired Military Members DoD Retiree ID Card
Honorably Discharged Veterans Current driver’s license with a Veteran designation or Veteran Identification Card (VIC)
Retired DoD Civilians Separate eligibility category; contact Fort Tuthill to confirm current credential requirements

Tips Before You Go

  • Bring your current physical ID; digital copies and expired cards are not accepted.
  • Veterans should bring either a current driver’s license with a Veteran designation or a Veteran Identification Card (VIC).
  • Do not bring a VHIC, DD-214, discharge paperwork, SF-50, or other paperwork as veteran eligibility verification; these will not be accepted.
  • Retired DoD civilians should contact Fort Tuthill before traveling because their eligibility category is separate from veterans’ eligibility.
